About Us

Every time you step into a high-rise in Port of Spain, a resort in Montego Bay, or a corporate headquarters in Bridgetown or the George Town, you are experiencing the work of facility management.

In the Caribbean, our buildings are more than just concrete and steel. They are the engines of our tourism, the safeguards of our healthcare, and the hubs of our commerce. But keeping these complex environments running safely, sustainably, and efficiently requires more than just maintenance.

It requires a specialized, strategic discipline. This is facility management. And this is why we are here.

Our Vision.

To be the premier advocate for facility management in the region.

Our Mission.

Advancing the facility management profession by promoting and representing the interest of our members.

What is facility management?

Facility or facilities management (FM) is a profession dedicated to supporting people. It ensures the functionality, comfort, safety, sustainability and efficiency of the built environment - the buildings we live and work in and their surrounding infrastructure.

Facility management makes an impact by turning places into productive, comfortable and sustainable spaces.

This combination of job responsibilities supports the operations of each organization to create an environment where the systems work together seamlessly, from the parking lot to the executive suite. Facility managers are the people who make sure we have the safest and best experience possible, by coordinating the processes that make the built environment succeed.

What is IFMA?

Founded in 1980, the International Facility Management Organization (IFMA) is the world's largest and most widely recognized association for facility management professionals, supporting over 25,000 members in more than 140 countries.

The association's members, represented in 120+ chapters and 16 industry councils, manage more than 37 billion square feet of property and annually purchase more than US$100 billion in products and services.

To meet its mission to “globally advance and support the practice of facility management,” on an annual basis IFMA:

  • Offers facility management professional development through three credentialing programs.

  • Produces World Workplace, the world’s largest facility management conference and exposition, and Facility Fusion, a more intimate gathering of FM professionals with powerful networking and a fusion of education, leadership training, best practices and an exposition.

  • Conducts research that strengthens the knowledge and skills of FM professionals while advancing the FM profession.

  • Provides a wide range of educational courses from entry-level programs to those for highly experienced facility managers.

  • Produces industry-leading publications, including magazines, podcasts and blogs.

  • Has an active social media presence on LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.

Who we are

IFMA Caribbean is the official regional chapter of the International Facility Management Association. We serve FM professionals across the Caribbean region, connecting building managers, engineers, operations leaders, and sustainability officers to global standards, regional peers, and real career development.

We're not a networking club. We're a professional home — the place where Caribbean FM practitioners come to get better, get recognized, and get connected.

Why the Caribbean needs this

Global FM standards were built for temperate climates with supply chains that can respond quickly. The Caribbean isn't that. The salt air, hurricane exposure, and some of the world's highest energy costs mean our FM professionals operate under more pressure, with fewer resources, than almost anywhere else. Existing as small, geographically dispersed island-nations also adds cost and complexity to everything we do.

Facility managers here don't just apply global standards; they adapt them, often with fewer resources and under more pressure than their counterparts elsewhere.

That level of expertise deserves proper recognition and a professional community built around its specific demands.

What we do

We give FM professionals in the Caribbean access to what they need to do their jobs well and build long careers.

That means internationally recognized certification pathways through IFMA's global credentialing programs. It means events, workshops, and peer learning opportunities grounded in Caribbean realities. It means connections to a global network of over 24,000 professionals, along with the research, tools, and resources that come with that membership.

We also work with organizations to make the case that professional facility management isn't overhead. It's one of the smartest operational investments a business can make.

Ready to be part of it? Whether you're a seasoned FM professional, just entering the field, or an organization looking to raise the standard of how your facilities are managed, there's a place for you here.

Explore membership. Get certified. Connect with the region's best.
